As with copy editing, proofreading is one of the jobs previously done by sub-editors in newspapers.

While copy editing involves reading over copy and correcting any typos, spelling or grammatical errors, proofreading stops with looking for potential errors, highlighting them and pointing them out to the author – who can then make any changes if they decide to do so.

Customers can make a judgement about you or your business based on any typographical, spelling or grammatical errors they see in your writing. Having a proofreader go through your writing ensures clients and potential clients form a good opinion of you and your business.
