Well, I’m a journo, so speed, accuracy and tight deadlines are what I thrive on!

Here’s a step-by-step of the process.

Step 1: Agree on the scope of work

I charge a set fee for each job (unless you’re a retainer client). This ensures there are no nasty surprises (for either of us.)

I’ll send you a brief to complete that asks a lot of questions so I know exactly what you need and when you need it. It will also ask about your target audience, project objectives and the tone of the writing you’d like me to use. (Chatty, formal etc.)

This enables me to give you an accurate proposal that will ensure we both know exactly what’s needed, what the cost will be and when it will be delivered.

Step 2: Proposal

Next, I’ll send you a proposal that includes a quote for the work to be done. It will include how many rounds of amendments are included in the price, the number of meetings etc. After you’ve read the proposal, we can make adjustments to suit.

Step 3: Deposit

I charge 50 per cent deposit before starting work. This is non-negotiable.

Step 4: Timings

The agreed proposal will include dates for each draft to be completed as well as delivery of the final product. Once we agree on the schedule at the proposal stage, then I need you to stick to it so I can get your copy back to you on time. Of course, if there’s a problem getting things done at your end, that’s not a problem – but please be aware that it will impact on my delivery times as a result.

Step 5: Drafts and amendments

I’ll do three versions of your documents (first draft, second draft, final draft). This will give you two rounds of amendments. Additional rounds will be charged at an hourly rate.

I supply the documents on MSWord and use track changes for comments for amendments.

Step 6: Meetings

Meetings are usually outside the normal fees (unless agreed beforehand). I charge hourly for meetings plus travel time and associated costs.

Step 7: Final review

This is where you have one last very careful read through of your documents before signing off that you’re happy.

Step 8: Final payment

When the job is complete I’ll invoice you for the final amount. My payment terms are seven days.
